After building the storage for our shed, I moved some things around to make room for the dust collector. Add a cyclone separator that traps the heavy sawdust in a trash can that's easy to dump out! By adding a separator to this setup, removing the sawdust is as simple as dumping out a trash can! "Being on a tight budget, I chose the 2hp model from Harbor Freight. A dust collector is only as good as it's filter, andas filters fill up with dust it reduces airflow and efficiency. Great to hear that if properly sealed you fell there is no performance drop. No matter which way you go to make it 2 stage ( Dust Separator) you'll spend more than you have in the used 1hp DC. So, how did it work? By having it set up in this fashion it causes a swirling/vortex affect and thus seperating the heavier shavings from sawdustif you get my drift. When it gets full, just remove the bag and throw it away (or use the sawdust for other projects!). The dust collector has a 4" opening, so you may need to step down the diameter in order to connect various tools. Only the lightest material and fine dust move on to the second stage. Have a metal top and a latch to hold it tight onto the barrel. 
Regular HVAC metal pipe may work, but I don't know for sure. This creates a flexible and airtight seal. At the top is a single hose that leads to the trash can separator.

Most of the excess parts went into the scrap pile, but the casters were actually pretty nice quality, so Ithink they will go under a new rolling tool cart I plan to make in the near future. Thet make large claims for it. will be making a LARGER version of this. The other thing is the fact that some impellers are made out of aluminum and not steel thus negating the spark likelyhood. But it actually feels bigger now that there's not piles of sawdust littering the floor all the time! I simply used the bolts to plug these holes. Roll it outside when you are working.
